In the Windward Islands you’ll see all types of exotic fish, colorful sponges, and beautiful coral. Many islands have marked underwater trails that snorkelers and scuba divers can explore. Signs along the trail describe the array of marine life living there and point out special places along the way so underwater explorers can learn about this magical underwater kingdom. Most larger hotels offer snorkeling instruction and equipment or you can seek out one of the many vendors along the beaches. Located in Tyrrel Bay on Carriacou, Arawak Divers is a comfortable familar PADi dive resort, offering individual service for all guests. This ranges from diving in small groups, private dive trips to pick-up service from yachts. The friendly dive team with experience since 1994 in diving around Carriacou offers daily dive trips, night diving and day excursions to Isle de Rhonde and Tobago Cays. Diving at the Sisters is our speciality. Two English and German speaking instructors offer PADI courses including Speciality courses. An SSI Platinum/PADI facility, Scuba St Lucia runs two of the islands longest established and first 5-star PADI centers. They offer daily dives to some of St Lucia’s most pristine underwater marine parks. Resort course for beginners, certification courses, two tank dives, wreck dives and night dives are some of the attractions offered. Equipment rentals for yacht charters are also available on a weekly basis. Every island offers great snorkeling possibilities right off magnificent white-sandy beaches. In most places you'll have the waters to yourself. A reef stretching for 1.6km (1 mile) along the island of Canouan invites snorkelers, and the waters are filled with beautiful brain coral and rainbow-hued fish. The snorkeling is also good at Palm Island and Petit St. Vincent. St. Vincent's 30 or so dive sites are sprinkled along its leeward shore, where you might spot seahorses and frogfish. The best area for snorkeling and scuba diving is the Villa/Young Island section on the southern end of the island. Dive St. Vincent, on the Young Island Cut has been owned and operated by a transplanted Texan, Bill Tewes, for more than a decade. St. Vincent's oldest and best dive company, it now has an additional shop, Grenadines Dive, at the Sunny Grenadines Hotel on Union Island. Also try Dive Canouan, at the Tamarind Beach Hotel on Canouan Island. The shops have a total of one instructor and four dive masters, as well as three dive boats. They offer dive/snorkel trips as well as sightseeing day-trips and dive instruction. Single-tank dives cost US$55 and two-tank dives go for US$100, including all equipment and instructors and/or dive-master guides. Dive packages are also available.
