For flights within the Caribbean, fly Winair - Windward Islands Airways International N.V.! Getting on board with Winair is easy. Windward Islands Airways International N.V. is a Government owned regional airline, founded in 1961. The airline operates 19-seat Twin-Otter and 9-seat Britton-Normand Islander aircraft. Winair has provided safe, efficient air transportation in the North Eastern Caribbean for over 40 years. Winair offers daily flights between the Princess Juliana Airport in St. Maarten and the islands of Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Barths, St. Kitts, Nevis, Anguilla, Tortola, Antigua, Montserrat. Winair will be flying to/from Anguilla again. These flights will be operated by Anguilla Air Services. St.Maarten (and sometimes Antigua) is most likely your point of arrival in the Caribbean, and where you will connect to Winair. It is generally advisable to have Winair E-tickets in hand before you arrive in St. Maarten. One thing to remember -- planes do not fly to St. Barths (SBH) at night (no lights at the airport!) so if you are going to St.Barths, you have to arrive on St. Maarten in time to catch the last flight of the day which is usually around 5pm. If at all possible, bring only carry-on luggage. This will ensure that you be able to use the In Transit Gate and avoid the customs lines. If you have to check luggage, there are certain airlines that will check all the way through. US Airways will usually check your bags all the way. Some people have had success checking their bags through with KLM, Delta and Continental. On January 13, 2003, Winair and US Airways began a codeshare agreement allowing US Airways to sell tickets on Winair flights as US Airways flights. US Airways provides service to St. Maarten; both Winair and US Airways coordinate scheduling, ticketing, and baggage transfer. From January 13 to June 30, 2003, US Airways customers could earn and redeem Dividend Miles on Winair flights. This program has been indefinitely suspended. |
